Youth Training Opportunity

Good afternoon,

I am writing with information about a unique program in Los Angeles started to mentor high school students in liturgy and music. LAMP SoCal (The Liturgical Arts Ministry Project of Southern California) is designed to provide a formation opportunity in liturgy ministry and pastoral music for high school students at a 5 ½ day in residence camp on the beautiful campus of Mount Saint Mary’s University (Chalon campus) in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles.

The camp is led by pastoral music and liturgical leaders from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and seeks to mentor youth in the art of multi-cultural liturgical expression and preparation. Students return to their parishes and schools with great formation to become stronger leaders in the preparation of liturgical services. In its third year, alumni of the program have been instrumental in preparation and planning of the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress youth day liturgies in February 2016 & 2017.

For students, this has been a powerful experience. I have attached the digital flyer which can be shared with your youth, music and liturgical leaders. The flyer points to our website, www.LAMPSoCal.org where there is more complete information about the program and registration information.

Please contact me with any questions about the program and for information about scholarship opportunities for students demonstrating financial need.

Best Regards,

Dale Sieverding

Readings for Daily and Weekly Mass

USCCB Web Site Provides

Calendar of Daily and Weekly Readings for Mass

Click here to see this month's calendar of readings

Use this web site to read the passages for Mass on any given day.  It is a helpful guide to preparing for Mass, or for helping you pray on what you heard at Mass.

Scripture is an important pillar of the Church where God reviels himself and the truth.  The scripture readings used at Mass have been selected and assembled into the Lectionary for use by all Catholics.

From Wikipedia:

With regard to the Daily Lectionary:

The Roman Catholic lectionary includes a two-year cycle for the weekday mass readings (called Cycle I and Cycle II). Odd-numbered years are Cycle I; even-numbered ones are Cycle II. The weekday lectionary includes a reading from the Old Testament, Acts, Revelation, or the Epistles, a responsorial Psalm, and a reading from one of the Gospels. These readings are generally shorter than those appointed for use on Sundays. The pericopes for the first reading along with the psalms are arranged in a two-year cycle. The Gospels are arranged so that portions of all four are read every year.

With regard to the weekly Sunday Lectionary:

The lectionary is organized into three-year cycles of readings. The years are designated A, B, or C. Each yearly cycle begins on the first Sunday of Advent (the last Sunday of November or first Sunday of December). Year B follows year A, year C follows year B, then back again to A.

The Gospel of John is read throughout Easter, and is used for other liturgical seasons including Advent, Christmas, and Lent where appropriate.
