Gift of a Lifetime Campaign 2018

The Gift of a Lifetime is OLR’s annual tuition assistance campaign. Two weeks ago, you heard student and/or parent speakers at each of the Masses, sharing their appreciation for your past support.

The cumulative annual request each year is approx. $75,000. As you may have seen from the guest speakers, the need varies greatly. We have had students who have suffered traumatic losses in their lives due to death, illness, and/or parental incarceration. We also heard from student speakers who have 3, 5, and 7 siblings attending Catholic schools, making the cost of a Catholic education more than their parents can afford. All of our speakers were greatly appreciative of being able to attend Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School.

Your support is truly making a difference in their individual and family life, but it makes us a better community. This year, once again, our annual goal is $100,000. Thank you for your support.

Here are the annual parish support numbers:

2012: $71,200 (within 5 months)

2013: $68,640

2014: $102,762

2015: $52,830

2016: $93,868

2017: $41,523

Readings for Daily and Weekly Mass

USCCB Web Site Provides

Calendar of Daily and Weekly Readings for Mass

Click here to see this month's calendar of readings

Use this web site to read the passages for Mass on any given day.  It is a helpful guide to preparing for Mass, or for helping you pray on what you heard at Mass.

Scripture is an important pillar of the Church where God reviels himself and the truth.  The scripture readings used at Mass have been selected and assembled into the Lectionary for use by all Catholics.

From Wikipedia:

With regard to the Daily Lectionary:

The Roman Catholic lectionary includes a two-year cycle for the weekday mass readings (called Cycle I and Cycle II). Odd-numbered years are Cycle I; even-numbered ones are Cycle II. The weekday lectionary includes a reading from the Old Testament, Acts, Revelation, or the Epistles, a responsorial Psalm, and a reading from one of the Gospels. These readings are generally shorter than those appointed for use on Sundays. The pericopes for the first reading along with the psalms are arranged in a two-year cycle. The Gospels are arranged so that portions of all four are read every year.

With regard to the weekly Sunday Lectionary:

The lectionary is organized into three-year cycles of readings. The years are designated A, B, or C. Each yearly cycle begins on the first Sunday of Advent (the last Sunday of November or first Sunday of December). Year B follows year A, year C follows year B, then back again to A.

The Gospel of John is read throughout Easter, and is used for other liturgical seasons including Advent, Christmas, and Lent where appropriate.
