Following college, he was appointed Head Basketball Coach at College of the Desert. Coach McElrath was recommended for the job by former LA Lakers assistant, Tex Winter; who coached against Rich when he was the Head Coach at CSULB. Rich has coached multiple Division 1 NCAA players along the way. Coach Rich focuses on individual skill development that will translate to the next level, as well as, strength and conditioning. He works with players as young as 3rd grade and on through the professional level. Clinics begin May 30 and are held most Saturdays from 9:00-10:45 AM. 4/19/2015:  Mrs. Toni Napier began volunteering at OLR in 1982? In 1990, she was hired to help out in the computer lab with the early literacy program. Over the next 25 years, she transformed the lab into an integral resource for every classroom, TK-8th grade. Her enthusiasm for teaching is impressive and inspiring. She has kept OLR on the cutting-edge of technology and learning. It was because of her vision that technology became a part of the students' natural learning environment, and that iPads were strategically introduced for teacher use and then student use. She has worked tirelessly (late nights and long summer days) to see her vision come to fruition. She is truly the heart and soul of OLR. Join us on June 7 when Mrs. Napier will be honored with a retirement celebration following the 9:30 AM Mass.

4/12/2015:  65th Annual L.A. County Science Fair. We are proud to announce the following winners: Anthony Castillo (Grade 8) won 1st place in Plant Biology; Erik Mercado (Grade 8) won 2nd place in Chemistry (General); Gabriela Mercado (Grade 6) won 3rd place in Physics (General); and Ryan Cartledge (Grade 6) won an Honorable Mention in Material Science. In addition, the following students won participation awards: Daniel Chelling (Grade 8), Justin Strickland and Caden Velasquez (Grade 7); Nicholas Romero (Grade 7), Kate Kennelly (Grade 6), and Ava Shanklin (Grade 6). It was a rich and rewarding experience for all the participants and we are deeply proud of how they represented Our Lady of Refuge throughout the competition and awards ceremony.

3/29/2015:  The LA Archdiocese Academic Junior High Decathlon was founded 25 years ago by Dr. Mark Ryan. Dr. Ryan's vision was to host an academic event that would parallel athletic competitions. In 1989, eight schools entered the competition. Twenty-five years later, 115 schools competed. This year, OLR placed in the top 25%. We are very proud of these hard-working students!

3/22/2015:  OLR alumnus, Laura Romero (Class of 2005), St. Anthony High School (2009) class valedictorian, graduated from UC Berkley in 2013 and was hired by St. Anthony High School to be the Alumni Affairs and Public Relations Coordinator. Laura generously gives back to OLR, the school where she received a solid academic and spiritual foundation, by sharing her gifts and talents with the OLR Marketing Team. We look forward to the release of the OLR Alumni Newsletter in Spring 2015.
